Lautenberg Announces More Than $5 Million In New Funding For Innovative New Jersey Energy Projects

Bill Includes Funding for Energy Upgrades at Municipal Buildings in Hudson County, Elizabeth and Perth Amboy

    WASHINGTON, DC – Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today announced that the Senate voted to approve the final version of the FY 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act which will provide more than $5 million for clean energy projects across the state.  The legislation, which also includes more than $20 million for beach renourishment projects and more than $130 million for other water projects throughout the state, now heads to the White House where it is expected to be signed into law. 

    “Investing in alternative energy resources will help New Jersey generate homegrown energy, reduce America’s dependence on dirty energy sources and protect the environment,” stated Lautenberg, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.  “These projects will ensure that New Jersey’s research institutions and scientists continue leading the nation in technological innovation and clean energy production.”

    New Jersey projects in the bill include:

  • Trenton Fuel Works: $1,000,000 for construction of the Trenton Fuel Works biofuel manufacturing plant
  • South Jersey Economic Development District: $500,000 to construct wind turbines in South Jersey
  • Rowan University: $750,000 for algae to ethanol research
  • City of Perth Amboy: $200,000 for a municipal complex solar power project
  • Hudson County: $500,000 for solar panels on Hudson County facilities
  • City of Elizabeth: $1,000,000 for solar panels in municipal buildings                            
  • Township of Cranford: $180,000 Municipal Building Energy Efficient Window Replacement Program
